My Memories Fragmented and Reinvented
This project is a representation of my memory, sourced from old photographs and other sentimental entities, fragmented and reinvented. I am not one to remember a scene or much of an image, yet I find myself remembering specific things. I believe that certain things have stayed with me for the reason that i have chosen to remember them. My boards are not literal to me but are my way of exploring these fragments of memory I have chosen to keep. I have therefore fragmented what I remember, and created small boards, each one holding a different section of memory. A few of these photos consist of places I haven’t visited or experienced taken at times before i was born. However, throughout my childhood they have featured in stories I have been told and have therefore become memories of my own, reminding me of a different time, or a different place, gaining a new meaning for me. I regard my memories as more precious than gold, thus using gold to reflect these memories into my work becomes a way of preservation; of holding on. Gold is that unique colour that can be used to represent all moods present within these memories; it can be warm, bright and cheerful as well as being sombre and traditional. The past, what has been, what is no more; our memories are something that will never change when everything else does.
My Memories Fragmented and Reinvented Developed Further
After creating my first set of boards I decided to develop them further in changing the material they are on. My source material is old, represents my history and is an indication of time, therefore I cut and re-created these boards onto pannels from an old chest, a material that in itself is old, has an inbuilt history and therefore represents time.
